Save the Date! Ms. Fembot 2016: A Digital Initiative for Civic Engagement

110915 01 Edited Friday, March 11th, Ms. Magazine, Beverly Hills: Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon to contribute figures, movements, organizations, and ideas historically marginalized because of gender, race, and sexuality into Wikipedia. Help us make sure that the virtual world of free and accessible knowledge offers a gender inclusive history. Learn how to make effective, engaging entries and improve on existing content with robust citations, data, categories, infoboxes, etc.

This year’s edit-a-thon will feature a special collaborative group focusing on writing the history of women’s athletics into Wikipedia!

Saturday, March 12th, USC, Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism: Un-Conference on Digital Tools for Civic Engagement to introduce digital tools and create ways to harness, hack, and expand them for feminist scholarship and civic engagement.

Sessions will lay the groundwork for the Fembot Collective’s textbook on Digital Tools for Civic Engagement, which will be collaboratively authored by the workshop’s participants.

  • Digital Archiving: Record Keeping and Collaborating with Zotero
  • Anonymity Tor: The Onion Router for Feminists
  • Mapping: GIS/Mapping Geolocated Data and Crowdmapping
  • Visualizing Data: Infographics 101: Literacy, Utility, and Production
  • #communitybuilding – Creating Successful Social Media Networks
  • Opening Access – DIY Book Scanning & Open Access/Open Data
