The University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication seeks an outstanding
Assistant Professor with a focus in media history to join our faculty, carry out scholarly research,
and teach in our undergraduate and graduate programs. The ideal candidate for this tenurerelated
position will have a track record of research and university teaching experience in the
field of journalism and communication and share our demonstrated commitment to working
effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. A Ph.D. in a relevant field
is required. ABDs will be considered.

Our priority research and teaching need is media history, particularly the ability to teach and
advise students on historical questions related to a broad range of media institutions. The new
colleague will teach and advise students in one or more of our undergraduate majors (Journalism,
Public Relations, Advertising, Communication Studies), as well as contribute to core
undergraduate coursework relevant to all majors. The colleague will also teach and advise
students in our master’s and doctoral programs in Media Studies and will have opportunities to
participate in programs at our George S. Turnbull Center in Portland.
